Focals by North: PR, Comms & Content

A few years back I managed PR, communications and content for North, a 300 person augmented reality hardware start up. North raised $200M USD from investors including Intel Capital, Fidelity and the Amazon Alexa Fund. In October 2018, North released Focals, a pair of everyday, stylish smart glasses with an AR display (one of Time's best inventions of 2019). I led the release of Focals, from press, to video development, to events and content.

Our goal was to shake off the skeletons of Google Glass, and create an aesthetic that appealed to everyday glasses wearers. While the launch was a success, we ended up where we began: North was acquired by Google in June 2020.
